Stay near Nara Park or use the stations as your Kansai base

Nara Park brings free-roaming deer together with major sites such as Todai-ji, Kofuku-ji and Kasuga Taisha. A stay near Kintetsu Nara puts the park and temples closer; JR Nara is useful for wider rail connections and station-linked hotels. Compare the stays, multi-stop tours and tickets below to decide whether you want to walk from your hotel or commute in for the day.

How we chose

  • For a walking itinerary around Nara Park and the temples, look near Kintetsu Nara or the park itself. JR Nara is a better fit when onward rail travel to Osaka or Kyoto and direct station access matter most.
  • If you are keeping an Osaka or Kyoto hotel, compare the day tours by their Kyoto stop. One includes Arashiyama; the other visits Fushimi Inari Taisha. Both combine several Kansai sights, so check the full route and departure city before booking.
  • The Kintetsu limited-express e-ticket covers a reserved seat between Osaka-Namba and Kintetsu Nara; check whether the base fare is separate. Museum tickets and the Northern Osaka–Nara pass have different validity periods and inclusions.

Good to know before you book

Nara Park is a broad landscape of lawns, woodland, shrines and temples, with deer moving freely through the grounds. Todai-ji, Kofuku-ji and Kasuga Taisha each deserve time of their own. Starting near Kintetsu Nara makes it easier to explore the park on foot rather than treating each landmark as a separate transfer.

Think of the hotel decision as a choice between the two stations. Kintetsu Nara is closer to the park and central sights; JR Nara offers useful regional rail access and station-connected accommodation. Nara Hotel, opened in 1909, is a historic property near Sarusawa Pond and the old-town streets.

Multi-stop bus tours can make sense if you want to combine Nara with Kyoto sights while staying in Osaka or Kyoto. The ticket selection covers a limited-express seat, two indoor museums and a Northern Osaka–Nara transport and admission pass. Read each product’s route, operating dates and included attractions so you can add separate temple entry or local transport where needed.

Rates and availability depend on dates, guests and selected options. Check the terms on the product page.
