From an Arashiyama river boat to hot springs outside the city: 8 Kyoto tickets

Kyoto’s temples alone can fill a day, but the ticketed attractions cluster in Arashiyama to the west, the mountains to the north and the area west of Kyoto Station. Planning by half-day area cuts travel and makes it easy to separate family days from adults-only outings.

Our selection

How we chose

  • The Sagano Romantic Train and Hozugawa river boat use dated, timed tickets. Seats go fast in foliage and cherry-blossom seasons, so book early.
  • Mountain sights such as Kurama and Mount Hiei are cooler than the city and involve trails. Bring comfortable shoes and a layer.
  • Towel and yukata rental and extra charges differ between hot-spring facilities. Check inclusions on the booking page.

Good to know before you book

The classic Arashiyama sequence is the Sagano Romantic Train up to Kameoka in the morning, then the Hozugawa river boat back down. Step off near Togetsukyo Bridge and walk into the bamboo grove to round out the half-day.

The Railway Museum and Aquarium sit side by side in Umekoji Park, west of Kyoto Station, making an easy half-day with children. Uzumasa Kyoto Village is an immersive park aimed at adults, better for an evening without kids.

To rest late in the trip, add Kurama Onsen in the north or Takenosato Onsen in Rakusai. Mount Hiei combines views toward Lake Biwa with a visit to Enryaku-ji and deserves a day of its own.

Rates and availability depend on dates, guests and selected options. Check the terms on the product page.
