Our selection

How we chose

  • We looked at room count, floors, opening or renovation year and the distances to nearby sights listed for each hotel, spreading the picks over three in Tokyo, two in Osaka, two in Hokkaido and one in Shikoku.
  • Hot-spring wording varies by branch. Open-air baths are listed for Kitahama, Koden-cho and Matsuyama, while the others mention only a sauna or onsen, so start with those three if an open-air bath matters.
  • Breakfast is mostly a buffet from 06:30. Shibuya Jingumae serves à la carte from 07:00 to 09:30 and Matsuyama offers a local-style menu. All breakfasts are paid.

Good to know before you book

In Osaka, choose Namba for food streets and night views, Kitahama for a quieter base. The Namba Premium branch is four minutes from Dotonbori and 0.5 km from Kuromon Market; Kitahama is 1.2 km from Osaka Castle Park and five minutes by car from Dotonbori.

The three Tokyo branches differ. Shibuya Jingumae is a six-floor hotel ten minutes on foot from Omotesando Hills and the Shibuya crossing; Koden-cho is an eastern base 3.6 km from Senso-ji and 3.7 km from Tokyo Dome; Ueno Okachimachi has 106 rooms, the smallest here, near Ueno Park.

In Hokkaido, Sapporo Annex sits near Odori Park and Otaru Premium is a ten-minute walk from Nichigin-dori and the canal, 27.4 km from Kokusai ski resort, which lets you fold winter plans in. Matsuyama in Shikoku is five minutes by car from Dogo Onsen and Banseiso.
