Osaka · Tennoji
From the 60th-floor glass observatory, 300m up at the top of Japan’s tallest building, you see Osaka Castle, Tsutenkaku and distant mountains in every direction. The 58th-floor open-air garden adds light shows at night, and a 16th-floor museum and the Sky Garden 300 restaurant keep view and dinner under one roof.
Osaka · Umeda
The Floating Garden, 173m up and linking two towers, is an open rooftop where you can walk a full loop above Osaka Bay and the city grid. At night the Lumi Sky Walk lights the floor like stars, and the see-through escalator between Hiroshi Hara’s twin towers is found nowhere else.
Kyoto · Kyoto Station
A 100m deck facing Kyoto Station, the highest point in the city, with views to Kiyomizu-dera, To-ji and the Higashiyama hills. The white, lighthouse-inspired tower also houses restaurants and a bath, handy for spare time right after arriving by Shinkansen or before leaving.
Hyogo · Kobe
A 110m rooftop terrace with a 360-degree view of the Rokko range, the city and the sea. Kobe Port and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge fit in one frame for a classic harbor-city night shot, and being outdoors you feel the sea breeze as you look out.
Abeno Harukas 300 connects directly to Kintetsu Osaka-Abenobashi and JR Tennoji stations, so you can go up without getting wet on a rainy day. Walk on to Shinsekai and Tsutenkaku afterwards to fold dinner into the same route.
Umeda Sky Building is a little over ten minutes on foot from JR Osaka Station through the underground passages. The open roof can feel cold on windy days, so bring a layer and time your visit for dusk after shopping in Umeda.
Kyoto Tower faces the central exit of Kyoto Station, making it an easy stop during a Shinkansen connection. In Kobe, SORAFUNE fits an evening by the harbor, which makes night-view timing simple.
