From communal baths by the station to view pools: 6 Beppu onsen hotels

Steam rises across Beppu, and most hotels here have a communal or open-air bath. Around Beppu Station you get easy Oita Airport buses and Yufuin connections plus walking access to Takegawara Onsen and Beppu Tower; to the north, around Kamegawa, quieter ryokan-style stays sit apart from the centre.

How we chose

  • The Kannawa area with the Hells is about 20 minutes by bus from Beppu Station. Staying by the station, check bus times; with a car, check parking.
  • Decide whether you want a communal bath, an open-air bath or an in-room tub. Big hotels offer larger baths; small properties offer calm.
  • Breakfast inclusion and hours vary. If you leave early for Yufuin or Fukuoka, check when breakfast starts.

Good to know before you book

On a first visit, a station-area hotel is the safest choice. Walk to the sand baths at Takegawara Onsen, open since 1879, and Beppu Tower’s night view, then take the bus to the Hells the next morning.

Hotels with outdoor pools let families combine the onsen and swimming in summer. View pools open seasonally, so check for your travel dates.

Pairing with Yufuin? A ryokan night in Yufuin and an onsen-hotel night in Beppu balances cost and atmosphere.

Rates and availability depend on dates, guests and selected options. Check the terms on the product page.
