Okinawa Hotel Guide

Top 12 Hotels in Okinawa: Naha, Onna and Motobu

In Okinawa the first decision is Naha or a resort, not which hotel. This guide groups 12 Okinawa hotels by area across Naha, Onna and Motobu, comparing the real drive from the airport and between areas, room size and bed configuration, and what each rate actually covers.

AREA GUIDE

How to choose where to stay in Okinawa

Whether you rent a car decides where to stay in Okinawa. The monorail reaches central Naha from the airport in about twenty minutes, so the city works without a car, but the Onna resort belt is roughly an hour's drive and Motobu, where the Churaumi Aquarium is, closer to two. Without a car, stay in Naha; with one, the central and northern resorts make more sense.

City hotels and resorts play very differently here. Central Naha puts Kokusai Dori and the restaurants within walking distance but keeps you away from the sea, while some Onna and Motobu resorts offer beaches and pools but can leave fewer evening options outside the property. Meal plans and beach operating periods or access rules vary by resort and date, so read the plan details first.

Okinawa sees higher demand during the summer holiday season, Golden Week and the New Year period, while December to February can suit golf and sightseeing more than swimming. Rates and beach access vary by resort and date, and flights can be disrupted during the June rains and August-September typhoon season, so check cancellation and refund terms.

In Japan the total can change within the same hotel depending on the plan. Before booking, check whether breakfast is included, how the public bath is used, whether accommodation and bathing taxes are paid on site, and the free-cancellation deadline. Check-in is typically 15:00 and check-out 10:00-11:00, with early check-in usually chargeable. Rooms are often smaller than Korean travellers expect, so confirm the bed configuration and whether an extra bed is possible for three or more guests.

For three nights, a night in Naha on arrival and departure with two in an Onna resort in between balances travel and rest. If the Churaumi Aquarium is on the list, book a night near Motobu so you can be there at opening. With two nights, narrowing to either Naha or a resort saves the driving.

  • Season and weather

Okinawa sees higher demand during the summer holiday season, Golden Week and the New Year period, while December to February can suit golf and sightseeing more than swimming.

QUICK GUIDE

Okinawa hotels by area

  • Central Naha — no car needed

Hyatt Regency Naha, Hotel Collective and Rihga Royal Gran Okinawa sit here, walking distance from Kokusai Dori and the monorail — also a good arrival or departure night.

  • Onna and central Okinawa — resort time

ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort, Kafuu Resort Fuchaku Condo, Hotel Monterey Okinawa, Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina and Hotel Nikko Alivila are here — the belt for a stay spent mostly on the property.

  • The north and Motobu — Churaumi Aquarium

The Busena Terrace, Hilton Okinawa Sesoko Resort and Hotel Orion Motobu Resort & Spa sit in the north. Add a night here to reach the aquarium at opening.

  • The south — airport access and quieter beaches

Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach lies on the coast south of Naha Airport — worth considering if you want the sea without driving north.
