Where to stay for Nebuta and Neputa: 5 Aomori-area hotels

Aomori Nebuta and Hirosaki Neputa are separate festivals in two different cities, so the best hotel depends on which parade anchors your trip. This shortlist brings together station-side rooms, a stay with Nebuta artwork, a natural hot spring and a Hirosaki base near the park. Choose the town you want to return to after the evening crowds, or split the stay if you plan to see both.

How we chose

  • For Aomori Nebuta, staying near Aomori Station keeps dinner, the city centre and the festival return route within easier reach.
  • For Hirosaki Neputa, look at the station and Hirosaki Park side of town. Walking distance matters when festival traffic slows buses and taxis.
  • Make the hotel part of the experience: choose a Nebuta-inspired room for local character, or a natural hot spring bath for a slower finish to a packed festival day.

Good to know before you book

The two festivals do not share one neighbourhood. Trains connect Aomori and Hirosaki, but parade nights can run late, so a split stay is the lower-stress choice if you want to see both. Otherwise, pick your main event first and avoid adding a long cross-city return after the crowds.

In Aomori, Hotel JAL City is a six-minute walk from the station and serves a breakfast buffet built around local seafood and regional dishes. ART HOTEL Aomori has a dedicated Nebuta Twin concept room, while Dormy Inn Aomori pairs a city base with a natural hot spring bath and sauna on the top floor.

For the Hirosaki side, Hirosaki Park Hotel sits within walking distance of both Hirosaki Station and Hirosaki Park. Hotel Aomori is a different kind of stay, with upper-floor rooms that can look across Mutsu Bay or toward the Hakkoda Mountains.
