From job role-play to dolphin shows: 6 Osaka attraction tickets for families

Choosing where to take children in Osaka is easier if you split city indoor venues from larger parks outside the city. In town there are Kids Plaza for job role-play, a LEGO discovery centre with three million bricks and NIFREL at Expocity, while Adventure World in Shirahama and Kobe's Nunobiki Herb Garden need a day of their own. Decide the children's ages, the weather and travel time first, then choose among the 6 below.

Our selection

How we chose

  • We chose across learning and role-play (Kids Plaza), indoor play (LEGOLAND Discovery, NIFREL), a ride (Tempozan Ferris wheel) and day trips (Adventure World, Nunobiki Herb Garden) so the picks do not overlap.
  • Age and entry rules differ. Kids Plaza prices children aged 7–15 and infants aged 3–6 separately and admits under-3s free, and LEGOLAND Discovery is free for ages 2 and under. Adventure World is sold only to people without a Japanese passport.
  • Re-entry and carry-in rules differ. LEGOLAND Discovery allows neither re-entry nor outside food, Kids Plaza allows re-entry on showing the ticket stub on the 3rd floor, and Nunobiki Herb Garden bans eating packed lunches in the garden.

Good to know before you book

On rainy days or with young children, city indoor venues are easier. Kids Plaza offers job role-play such as police officer or TV presenter, usually about two hours; LEGOLAND Discovery has a brick factory tour, a Duplo play area and a Miniland of Osaka landmarks; NIFREL has seven zones and a 360-degree spherical screen room.

Around dusk the Tempozan Ferris wheel fits. Beside the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan it looks over Osaka Bay, reaching Kansai International Airport and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in the distance, and at night the wheel's lighting colours give the next day's weather.

With a full day, head out of town. Adventure World in Shirahama, Wakayama, combines a zoo, an aquarium and an amusement park about 10 minutes by bus from Shirahama Station. Kobe's Nunobiki Herb Garden is a gondola ride up to 12 themed gardens and a view of the port city.

Rates and availability depend on dates, guests and selected options. Check the terms on the product page.
