Where to stay in Niseko: 6 ski hotels, from ski-in ski-out inns to onsen ryokan

Where to stay in Niseko depends on which slope you start from: ski-in ski-out hotels right below the Annupuri gondola, resorts inside Niseko Village, or stays in the Konbu Onsen area, a little over 2 km from the gondola, with a free ski shuttle. New Chitose Airport is 82 to 87 km away as the crow flies, so plan on road transfers. Every hotel here has onsen or bath facilities for after the slopes. The 6 stays are grouped by how you reach the lifts and by room type.

How we chose

  • Decide how you will reach the slopes. Niseko Northern Resort An'nupuri is about 360 m from the Annupuri gondola with ski-in ski-out access; The Green Leaf Niseko Village also offers ski-in ski-out, ski rental and lessons; and Niseko Konbu Onsen Tsuruga Besso runs a free ski shuttle.
  • Choose a room and meal style. One Niseko Resort Towers has condo-style rooms with kitchens and grocery delivery, and Tsuruga Besso is a 25-room stay centered on kaiseki dinners. Northern Resort An'nupuri and The Green Leaf have a breakfast buffet and dinner restaurants.
  • Bath types vary. Hotel Kanronomori has an open-air bath, private baths and a communal bath, and Higashiyama Niseko Village, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, has an onsen, a sauna and spa treatment rooms.

Good to know before you book

For the shortest walk to the gondola, Niseko Northern Resort An'nupuri is the pick: three stories, 151 rooms, opened in 1985 and renovated in 2007, about 360 m from the gondola, with an open-air bath, a communal bath, a sauna, a steam room, and ski rental and storage. Pets are welcome for a fee, and there is a library, chapel, table-tennis room and game room.

Traveling with children? Compare One Niseko Resort Towers and The Green Leaf Niseko Village. One Niseko (opened 1991, 11 floors, 105 rooms) has a kids' club, kitchens, ski rental and lessons; The Green Leaf (200 rooms) has an outdoor pool, a babysitting service and cross-country and downhill skiing on site.

For a quieter stay, look at Niseko Konbu Onsen Tsuruga Besso (opened 2013, four floors, 25 rooms) or the 49-room Higashiyama Niseko Village, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. The Reserve opened in 2020 over six floors with a rooftop garden, double-glazed windows, free valet parking and vegan and vegetarian menus.
