Visit Ise Jingu, then follow the coast to Toba and Shima

Ise Jingu’s Geku and Naiku shrines sit in separate areas, so a little planning helps you balance the pilgrimage with time on the coast. Ise-shi is a practical base for Geku and rail connections; Toba and Shima trade a shorter shrine commute for bay views and resort time. These stays and courses suit different ways to explore the peninsula.

How we chose

  • If both shrine precincts are on your itinerary, consider starting near Ise-shi Station and continuing to Toba or Shima the next day. The two sites are separate destinations, so your overnight base affects how much time you spend in transit.
  • Choose a Toba or Shima resort for a coastal setting, or stay near Ise-shi for an easier start at Geku and onward rail travel. Hotel shuttles have property-specific schedules and should be confirmed before arrival.
  • The golf selection ranges from wooded terrain to courses that follow the ria coastline around Ago Bay. Check the player minimum, cart arrangements, fees and date-specific booking terms for each course.

Good to know before you book

A typical Ise Jingu visit begins at Geku before continuing to Naiku. Staying near Ise-shi Station makes Geku and local dining easier to reach, while Toba or Shima works better when you want to spend the evening by the water after visiting the shrines.

Ise-Shima National Park is a coastal landscape of islands, coves and inlets across Toba and Shima. Toba’s port, Shima’s views over Ago Bay and Ise’s shrine precincts each create a different pace, so splitting a stay between the inland shrine area and the coast can make sense on a longer trip.

The courses have distinct settings. Ise-Shima Country Club uses wooded, rolling terrain; Kashikojima Country Club follows the ria shoreline. Excellent Golf Club Ise Futami brings Ise Bay into view on selected holes, while Ise Oowashi is shaped by a large lake and its island green. Compare the layout with your group’s playing preferences.
