Where to stay after the Shimanami Kaido ride

The Shimanami Kaido links the islands of the Seto Inland Sea on a roughly 70 km cycling route, with Imabari serving as a major start or finish point. A useful base does more than put you near the road: it gives your bike a secure place, keeps the station run manageable or offers a proper soak after the ride. These 5 stays cover each of those needs.

How we chose

  • If you are travelling with your own bike, look for room storage, a cycle hanger, a cyclist-only floor or a covered rack. Policies differ, so choose a property that matches how you want to secure the bike overnight.
  • For an early start or a train connection, compare the walk from Imabari Station with the distance to your rental pickup or return point.
  • For recovery, choose a public bath or hot spring. For a slower island night, check whether the room plan includes meals, drinks and activities before booking.

Good to know before you book

A one-day crossing and a multi-day island ride call for different bases. Imabari Station is practical for rail arrivals and bike logistics; a stay near Kurushima Strait puts the bridge scenery first. Confirm rental return arrangements before committing to your final night.

JR Clement Inn Imabari is built with cyclists in mind: its dedicated floor has a bike-friendly elevator, in-room cycle hangers, a pump and tools. Shimanami Prime Hotel Imabari is about five minutes from the station and allows bikes in guest rooms, with covered outdoor parking as another option.

Imabari Kokusai Hotel adds a large bath, open-air hot spring and sauna for tired legs. Daichoso faces the Kurushima-Kaikyo Bridge from every room, while GLAMPROOK Shimanami on Umashima offers sea-facing rooms and all-inclusive plans that bundle meals, drinks and island experiences.
