The Eastern Bus Terminal at Ekkamai sits beside exit 2 of Ekkamai BTS. Buses to Pattaya leave frequently from early morning, and services to Rayong and Ban Phe (the Koh Samet pier) also depart here. Being able to check out and wheel your suitcase to the terminal is an advantage no other Sukhumvit neighbourhood offers.
Walks get longer the further you go up Ekkamai Road (Soi 63) from the station. Many hotels here run a shuttle or tuk-tuk to the BTS, so check the hours; it makes hot afternoons and rainy days much easier.
Around Phra Khanong, rates are generally lower than in Thong Lo or Ekkamai, yet the BTS reaches Asok in around 10 minutes. If you sightsee by train and eat in the Ekkamai lanes, the balance of price and atmosphere works well.
