Hakone-en Aquarium
Hakone-en Aquarium houses around 32,000 fish representing 450 species from oceans and lakes worldwide. The aquarium is divided into three sections: the saltwater zone, freshwater zone, and seal zone. At 723 meters above sea level, the saltwater zone—Japan's highest-altitude marine exhibit—features sharks, emperor penguins, king crabs, and more. The freshwater zone showcases over 150 species including electric eels and piranhas. The seal zone also houses various turtle species. With fewer visitors, children can enjoy observing the animals undisturbed. Right next to the aquarium is the Komagatake Ropeway Station, where a 7-minute cable car ride takes you to Mount Komagatake's summit for panoramic views of Lake Ashi and distant Mount Fuji.
