Basic Information
Tsutenkaku Tower is one of Osaka's most recognizable landmarks, located in the nostalgic Shinsekai district. Originally built in 1912, the tower was designed with inspiration from the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. After the original structure was dismantled during World War II, the current tower was completed in 1956 and now stands 108 meters tall, including its lightning rod.
The tower's main attraction is the Golden Observation Deck on the fifth floor, approximately 87.5 meters above ground. From here, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Osaka and meet the famous Billiken statue, a symbol of good fortune. According to local tradition, rubbing the soles of Billiken's feet is believed to bring happiness and luck. A special outdoor observation deck also offers unobstructed views of the city.
Beyond sightseeing, Tsutenkaku features several interactive attractions. The Tower Slider is a 60-meter-long spiral slide that takes visitors from an elevated platform to the basement in approximately ten seconds. Inside the tower, visitors can also explore historical exhibits about Shinsekai, souvenir shops, and areas dedicated to popular Japanese confectionery brands.
Tsutenkaku is also known among Detective Conan fans as a location featured in the 1999 animated film The Last Wizard of the Century, involving Kaito Kid's activities in Osaka. With its historical architecture, distinctive observation decks, and lively surroundings, the tower offers visitors a memorable combination of Osaka's history, popular culture, and entertainment.

Monkey Tips
For memorable photographs of Tsutenkaku, visit Tsutenkaku Hondori Shopping Street, where the tower rises above the colorful retro-style storefronts. After sunset, the illuminated tower creates one of Shinsekai's most recognizable night scenes. You can also enjoy panoramic views from the observation deck during the evening.
Don't forget to visit the Billiken statue on the fifth-floor Golden Observation Deck. Rubbing the soles of its feet is a popular Osaka tradition associated with good luck. Visitors interested in more adventurous experiences can try the Tower Slider, but it requires a separate ticket and has age and safety restrictions.
Reserve your observation deck entry time before visiting, especially if you plan to arrive in the evening. The tower recommends purchasing timed tickets online in advance, as popular time slots may sell out. If you are driving, note that Tsutenkaku does not have its own parking facilities, so nearby paid parking must be used.
