Basic Information

Ebisu Bridge is one of Osaka's most recognizable landmarks, located in the heart of the lively Dotonbori entertainment district. Stretching approximately 26 meters across the Dotonbori River, the pedestrian bridge connects Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street to the north with Ebisubashi-suji Shopping Street to the south. Its central location makes it a popular meeting point and sightseeing spot for visitors exploring Osaka's Minami area.
The bridge is especially famous for its view of the Glico Running Man sign, a well-known symbol of Osaka. Many visitors gather here to take photographs with the illuminated advertisement and surrounding buildings. After sunset, colorful neon signs reflect on the river, creating one of the city's most distinctive nighttime scenes.
Ebisu Bridge also has a long history. The original bridge is believed to have been built around 1615, when the Dotonbori Canal was developed. Its name is thought to be connected to the pilgrimage route leading to Imamiya Ebisu Shrine. The present bridge was completed in 2007 as part of the city's waterfront redevelopment project.
Visitors can explore the nearby shopping streets, enjoy local Osaka dishes, and walk along the Tombori Riverwalk beneath the bridge. With its combination of historical significance, vibrant city scenery, and convenient access to Dotonbori's major attractions, Ebisu Bridge is an essential stop for travelers discovering central Osaka.

Monkey Tips

For the most iconic Osaka photograph, stand on Ebisu Bridge with the Glico Running Man sign in the background. Visiting after sunset is recommended, as the illuminated advertisements create a colorful backdrop. The bridge can become crowded, so avoid blocking the walkway while taking pictures.
For a different view of Dotonbori, take the ramp on the eastern side of the bridge down to the Tombori Riverwalk. From the riverside promenade, you can photograph the bridge, neon reflections, and sightseeing boats from a lower angle. This is also a pleasant place to enjoy the scenery along the canal.
To combine sightseeing with shopping, follow Ebisubashi-suji Shopping Street from Namba toward the bridge, then continue north into Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street. This route connects two of Osaka's popular shopping areas, with many restaurants and souvenir shops nearby. Check individual store hours if you plan to shop in the evening.
