Basic Information
Rainbow Bridge is one of Tokyo's most iconic landmarks, stretching across Tokyo Bay and connecting the Shibaura waterfront with Odaiba. Opened in 1993, the suspension bridge is approximately 798 meters long and offers spectacular views of the bay and Tokyo's modern skyline.
The bridge features a two-level structure carrying road traffic and the Yurikamome railway. Along its lower level is the Rainbow Promenade, a pedestrian walkway extending approximately 1.7 kilometers between Shibaura and Odaiba. Visitors can enjoy beautiful views of Tokyo Tower, ships crossing the bay, and the waterfront skyline while walking across the bridge.
The promenade is divided into northern and southern routes, each offering different views of Tokyo Bay. The northern route is popular for its city skyline views, while the southern route provides a panorama of the Odaiba waterfront and surrounding harbor.
After sunset, Rainbow Bridge becomes an impressive nighttime landmark. Its towers are illuminated in white or warm-white light, while the cables feature changing light patterns depending on the season and special events.
Combining beautiful waterfront scenery, impressive architecture, and colorful evening lights, Rainbow Bridge is a popular destination for sightseeing, photography, and scenic walks in Tokyo.

Monkey Tips
For beautiful views of Tokyo Bay, visiting in the late afternoon is recommended. Visitors can enjoy the waterfront scenery and take memorable photographs of Tokyo's skyline. During the warmer months, the promenade remains open until 21:00, making an evening walk possible.
The Rainbow Promenade offers two walking routes. Choose the northern route for views of Tokyo's city skyline and Tokyo Tower, or the southern route for views of Odaiba and the wider bay area.
Walking the full 1.7-kilometer promenade takes approximately 20–30 minutes at a steady pace. Allow extra time for photographs and rest stops. The walkway is free to use, but the opening hours change by season.
From November through March, the promenade closes at 18:00, so visitors should not confuse the bridge's nighttime illumination with pedestrian access hours. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing, and visitors must leave the walkway before closing time.
Cycling across the promenade is prohibited. Bicycles may only be pushed using designated equipment or carried in a suitable bag. Strong winds and maintenance work may also cause temporary closures.
For photographs showing the entire illuminated bridge, the Odaiba waterfront offers a beautiful viewing angle. The bridge is usually illuminated in white or warm-white light, while special colors are used for selected events.
