Basic Information

Sensoji Temple, located in the Asakusa district, is Tokyo's oldest Buddhist temple, with a history dating back to 628. Dedicated to Kannon, the Buddhist deity of compassion, it is one of the city's most famous cultural landmarks.
Visitors are welcomed by the iconic Kaminarimon Gate, known for its giant red lantern. Beyond the gate lies Nakamise Street, a lively shopping street lined with traditional Japanese snacks, souvenirs, and local crafts.
Continuing along the path, visitors will find Hozomon Gate, the Main Hall, and the beautiful five-storied pagoda. With its historic architecture and traditional atmosphere, Sensoji Temple is a must-visit destination for travelers who want to experience the cultural charm of Tokyo.

The Main Hall is open from 06:00 to 17:00 (April–September) and from 06:30 to 17:00 (October–March). Shops along Nakamise Street have their own opening hours.
Admission to Sensoji Temple is free. Bringing some Japanese yen coins is useful if you wish to make an offering or try an omikuji (fortune slip).
