Basic Information
Hoa Lo Prison (also known as the "Hanoi Hilton") was built in 1896 during the French colonial period in a village of the same name and was officially recognized in 1997 by Vietnam's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. During the Indochina War, many great Vietnamese revolutionaries were detained here, and during the Vietnam War, it became the site where American pilots were held. Due to this history, Hoa Lo Prison has now become a famous tourist attraction. It has been converted into a museum, where visitors can view exhibits depicting the lives of former prisoners.
