- Overview
- Tha Phae Gate
- Tha Phae Gate is part of Chiang Mai’s ancient city wall and moat system, originally built for defense. Located on the eastern side of the wall, it is one of the main entrances to the old city and was historically used by merchants and travelers. Showcasing the architectural techniques and design of the time, it is now one of Chiang Mai’s most famous landmarks
- Wat Chedi Luang
- Wat Chedi Luang is one of the most important Buddhist temples in Chiang Mai, Thailand, built between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. Located in the center of the Old Town, the temple features a massive chedi measuring 54 meters wide on each side and 90 meters high, making it one of the largest structures of the Lanna Kingdom. It once housed the Emerald Buddha, one of Thailand’s most sacred religious icons. Within the temple grounds, there are also three Yang trees believed to be guardian trees that embody the spirit of Chiang Mai.
- Wat Lok Moli
- Wat Lok Moli is one of the ancient temples in Chiang Mai, with a history of over 500 years, built during the Lanna Kingdom. It is located on the northern side of the city and is considered a hidden gem. As it is not widely known, it is popular among visitors seeking a quiet and peaceful temple experience. Although not large in size, its well-maintained gardens and chedi create a serene and beautiful atmosphere, leaving a lasting impression on visitors.
- Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan
-
Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan is one of the most famous temples in Chiang Mai’s Old Town. It was built in 1345 (B.E. 1888) by King Phayu in honor of his father, King Kham Fu.
The temple’s name is derived from the Phra Singh Buddha image, a lion-like Buddha statue enshrined within the temple. It is believed that this sacred image was brought from Sri Lanka to the Lanna Kingdom in the late 14th century. The statue is beautifully adorned with gold and is renowned for its intricate craftsmanship. - Three Kings Monument
-
The Three Kings Monument is located in the center of Chiang Mai, Thailand, and was built to honor the three kings associated with the founding of the city. The monument features statues of King Mengrai, King Ramkhamhaeng, and King Ngam Muang, who played significant roles in the development and cooperation of the region in the late 13th century.
King Mengrai: The founder of the Lanna Kingdom and the builder of Chiang Mai. He established the city in 1296 and made it the capital of the Lanna Kingdom.
King Ramkhamhaeng: The king of the Sukhothai Kingdom, who formed an alliance with King Mengrai and contributed to regional stability and development. His friendly relationship with King Mengrai supported the early growth of Chiang Mai.
King Ngam Muang: The king of the Phayao Kingdom, who cooperated with King Mengrai and King Ramkhamhaeng in supporting the construction of Chiang Mai. The collaboration of these three kings played a crucial role in the early development of the city.
