[Bangkok] Ayuthaya bangpain by car

4 20
Overview
Join a shared tour with international travelers led by a Thai Guide who speaks English.

Located approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes north of Bangkok, this tour visits Bang Pa-In Summer Palace and Ayutthaya’s renowned temples, Wat Mahathat and Wat Phra Si Sanphet.

Explore Ayutthaya, Thailand’s former capital and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site since 1991, and experience the atmosphere of this ancient city.
Tour Details
- **Bang Pa-In Summer Palace:** Bang Pa-In is a summer residence still used by the Thai royal family today. Construction began under King Rama III, and the residence was later renovated by King Rama V.
Just outside the residence is Wat Niwet Thammaprawat. Although the temple’s exterior resembles a traditional European Catholic cathedral, it houses a Buddha image inside. This reflects how highly King Rama V, also known as King Chulalongkorn the Great, valued Thailand’s internationalization at the time.

- **Wat Mahathat:** Considered one of the largest historical sites in Ayutthaya, Wat Mahathat was thoroughly destroyed during the Burmese invasion and has been preserved in its ruined state.

- **Wat Phra Si Sanphet:** The most important temple within the royal palace complex, Wat Phra Si Sanphet is comparable to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok.
Founded by King Ramathibodi II in 1500, it was renowned for its 16-meter-tall bronze Buddha statue covered in 171 kg of gold. In 1767, the Burmese reportedly set fire to the statue to melt down its gold.
