Crossing the Annam Mountains via a scenic mountain pass, this 21km stretch offers views of the South China Sea, making it a popular drive route.
Although it falls under Hue’s administrative area, it’s close to Da Nang, so it’s easy to stop by on the way to Hue and enjoy the scenery.

The Huế Royal Palace is one of Huế’s most outstanding attractions, known for its impressive sights. Here, the emperors of the Nguyễn Dynasty lived in a vast, walled complex.
Inside the palace grounds was the Forbidden City, accessible only to the emperor, his concubines, and close aides. Entering without permission could even result in execution.
Reconstruction is underway to preserve this historic site, but today, only a small portion of the former restricted areas remains, and much of it is in ruins. The South Gate, where visitors enter, is said to have been modeled after China’s Forbidden City. Not only the South Gate, but within the palace you’ll also find royal residences, temples, and a Forbidden City-style complex built for the emperor. Its alternate name also comes from the Chinese Forbidden City.

A Vietnamese home-style set meal is provided for lunch. While it’s not as famous as pho or banh mi, it’s a hearty, comforting dish that Vietnamese locals love, prepared with care.

Emperor Khai Dinh ruled during the late Nguyễn dynasty from 1916 to 1925. Construction of this tomb began in 1920 and was completed in 1931. Unlike other imperial tombs modeled after Chinese styles, this one stands out clearly. Influenced by French colonial rule, it features a strong European architectural influence.

Built in about three years starting in 1804, Minh Mang Emperor’s Tomb is one of the structures influenced by Chinese architecture. Minh Mang was a key figure who devoted great effort to national development, and his reign coincided with the Nguyen Dynasty’s golden age. Be sure to admire the impressive lineup of civil officials, military officers, and horse-and-elephant stone statues flanking the main gate, Da Hong Mon, as well as the grandeur of the Sung An Hall.

Located on a hill overlooking the Perfume River, this site was built in 1601 and is famous for its 7-story stone pagoda.
At the entrance, you’ll find an octagonal 7-story stone pagoda built in the 19th century. Standing over 21m tall, it is considered one of Vietnam’s most representative landmarks—not just a highlight of Huế (Hué).
Inside the pagoda’s stairway, you’ll see Buddha statues. On both sides of the pagoda are two pavilions: one features a stele placed atop the back of a large turtle, and the other houses a massive bell weighing over 2 tons.
